Following graduation, graduates may, depending on the programme completed, their professional qualifications and the criteria of the relevant European organisations, apply for the corresponding European professional certificates.

Applying for a European professional certificate is a separate professional procedure undertaken after obtaining the BHIDAPA-EAPTI diploma. Graduates may apply once they have fulfilled the relevant requirements, or at a later stage, in accordance with the rules of the respective European organisation.

The fact that a graduate has not applied for a particular European professional certificate does not alter the fact that they have successfully completed the relevant BHIDAPA-EAPTI accredited programme and obtained a BHIDAPA-EAPTI diploma.

Continuing Professional Development – CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an integral part of the professional responsibility of psychotherapists and of the ongoing maintenance and development of professional competenciContinuing Professional Development (CPD) is an integral part of the professional responsibility of psychotherapists and of the ongoing maintenance and development of professional competence following completion of psychotherapy training.

For holders of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP), continuing professional development is a mandatory component of ECP re-registration.

According to the current EAP requirements and the latest PRF/Appendix document, re-registration requires evidence of at least:

150 hours of CPD activities over a three-year period,
across at least three prescribed categories,
with a maximum of 50 hours recognised within any single category.

According to the Appendix to the current EAP Practitioner Registration/Re-Registration document, CPD activities include:

  1. advanced or additional professional psychotherapy training;
  2. professional supervision of psychotherapeutic, clinical or group practice, including peer supervision;
  3. personal psychotherapy – individual, group, couple or family psychotherapy;
  4. participation in psychotherapy conferences and symposia;
  5. professional activities within the field of psychotherapy, including participation in boards, committees and other professional bodies;
  6. participation in further psychotherapy training as a supervisor, researcher or trainer.

EAP – Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Individual Professional Responsibility

Each holder of a European professional certificate is responsible for continuously monitoring, documenting and fulfilling their own CPD and re-registration requirements within the applicable timeframes and in accordance with the current rules of the organisation awarding the certificate.

BHIDAPA-EAPTI provides its graduates with information and professional and administrative support within the scope of its responsibilities. However, responsibility for maintaining an individual’s professional and certification status remains with the certificate holder.

BHIDAPA Academy regularly organises training programmes, supervision, professional events and other continuing professional development activities and provides participants with appropriate documentation confirming completed activities and the number of hours undertaken.

We recommend that all holders of European professional certificates maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio and retain the relevant supporting documentation.

ECP Re-Registration

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is mandatory for the re-registration of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP).

The current EAP Practitioner Registration Form includes a dedicated Appendix to the Practitioner Re-Registration Form for the European Certificate of Psychotherapy, which sets out the CPD requirements for re-registration.

The PRF states that appropriate continuing professional development is required in accordance with the rules of the National Awarding Organisation (NAO) in the country in which the psychotherapist practises, together with EAP recommendations regarding the content and number of CPD hours.

ECP Re-Registration in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Following the establishment of the Association of Psychotherapy Associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SPUuBiH) as the National Awarding Organisation (NAO), information regarding the ECP re-registration procedure in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be updated in accordance with the applicable procedures of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) and the responsibilities of SPUuBiH as the NAO.

Each ECP holder remains responsible for monitoring, documenting and fulfilling CPD and ECP re-registration requirements within the applicable timeframes and in accordance with the current EAP rules.

Institutional Records and Continuing Professional Development of BHIDAPA-EAPTI Graduates

BHIDAPA Academy of Psychotherapy, as a European Accredited Psychotherapy Training Institute (EAPTI), operates in accordance with the relevant standards and principles of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) concerning the quality of training, professional development and the maintenance of psychotherapists’ professional competence. EAPTI status entails the ongoing maintenance of the quality of training programmes and institutional procedures in accordance with the criteria of EAP and its Training Accreditation Committee (TAC).

In line with this commitment, BHIDAPA-EAPTI maintains institutional records of its graduates and monitors their continuing professional development through documented professional development activities, supervision and other relevant forms of professional and personal development.

BHIDAPA-EAPTI institutional registration constitutes an internal system for monitoring the professional development and status of BHIDAPA Academy graduates. It is separate from ECP re-registration and does not constitute confirmation of the validity or re-registration of the ECP or any other European professional certificate.

In defining its continuing professional development criteria, BHIDAPA-EAPTI follows the relevant EAP CPD standards as a European professional reference framework. Under the current EAP framework, ECP re-registration requires evidence of at least 150 hours of CPD activities during the preceding three years, with a maximum of 50 hours recognised within any single category.

Formal responsibility for verifying compliance with CPD requirements related to maintaining ECP status is governed by EAP rules. According to the current ECP Official Document, Version 9.0, responsibility for verifying the CPD requirements of ECP holders lies with the relevant NAO and/or EWAO, or another appropriate professional organisation that is a member of EAP.

Accordingly, BHIDAPA-EAPTI institutional registration should not be equated with ECP re-registration. It constitutes the Academy’s institutional mechanism for monitoring the continuing professional development of its graduates and supporting the maintenance of professional standards following completion of their training.

The BHIDAPA-EAPTI diploma constitutes a permanent record of the successful completion of the relevant training programme at BHIDAPA Academy, irrespective of whether the graduate subsequently applies for the ECP or another European professional certificate.

For graduates who have obtained European professional certificates, BHIDAPA-EAPTI may record documented certification status within its institutional records on the basis of documentation provided by the graduate. Responsibility for monitoring the validity of an individual European professional certificate, fulfilling its CPD requirements and completing re-registration within the applicable timeframe remains with the certificate holder, in accordance with the rules of the organisation awarding the certificate.

Information intended for public access is available through the Register of Graduate Psychotherapists and Counsellors of the BHIDAPA-EAPTI

The Register constitutes the institutional record of psychotherapists and counsellors who have graduated from BHIDAPA-EAPTI. The BHIDAPA-EAPTI institutional registration status stated in the Register refers exclusively to the Academy’s institutional records and does not constitute confirmation of the current status of the ECP, ECIP, EIATSCYP, ECGT or any other European professional certificate.

Graduates are responsible for the accuracy and timely submission of information concerning subsequently obtained European professional certificates and their re-registration. BHIDAPA-EAPTI updates its institutional records on the basis of documentation submitted and verified.

BHIDAPA Academy also maintains a separate Register of Trainers/Educators of the BHIDAPA Academy, recording professionals engaged in training and educational roles within the Academy.

CPPD – Development of Continuing Professional Development Programmes

BHIDAPA-EAPTI continuously develops advanced professional development programmes for psychotherapists, following European standards for continuing professional development and creating the conditions for their future inclusion within the EAP Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPPD) framework.

The development of CPPD programmes forms part of BHIDAPA-EAPTI’s strategic commitment to European training standards, the quality of psychotherapeutic practice and continuing professional development following completion of core psychotherapy training.

Information on the further development of CPPD programmes is published in a timely manner on the official BHIDAPA Academy website.
