Continuous Professional Development and Re-registration

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

BHIDAPA-EAPTI, the founder of the Academy for Psychotherapy, follows European standards of the  EAPEIATSCYP and EAIP  in the areas of education, ethics, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and ECP re-registration.

The BHIDAPA Academy of Psychotherapy organises continuing professional development (CPD) for psychotherapists through advanced seminars, workshops, supervision, personal psychotherapeutic work and personal development, as well as symposia and conferences. Our programmes are aligned with the standards of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) and may be counted towards the hours required for re-registration of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP), as well as for other forms of professional development.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is a requirement for the re-registration of ECP holders in the national registers maintained by the NAO in the country where they practise. During the transitional period, in countries where a NAO has not yet been fully established, CPD records are kept via the competent EAPTI institutes, in accordance with EAP guidelines.

Within a three-year period, you are required to complete at least 150 hours of CPD1, from three or more of the following categories, with a maximum of 50 hours per single category:

a) Advanced or additional professional psychotherapy courses
Please list these, including details of the provider (institute) and a short synopsis of each course, and indicate the number of hours for each course on a separate sheet.

b) Professional supervision of psychotherapy practice / clinical / group work, and peer supervision
Please indicate on a separate sheet the name of the supervisor/institute, the number of hours of supervision, and the total number of hours.2

c) Personal psychotherapy (individual, group, couple or family therapy)

d) Attendance at psychotherapy conferences / symposia
Please list the title, date and organiser of each conference/symposium on a separate sheet and indicate the number of hours of session time attended. Please attach copies of all attendance certificates.

e) Professional activities in the field of psychotherapy
For example, being elected to a board or committee and attending its meetings. Please indicate the organisation, dates of the board/committee meetings and the number of official hours for each meeting.

f) Participation in additional psychotherapy training in the role of supervisor / researcher / trainer.

The minimum 150 hours may not include more than 50 hours from a single category.

CPD should be reviewed every three years by the accredited National Awarding Organisation (NAO) that maintains the register of ECP holders. Each NAO is responsible for defining the exact interval and method of CPD review within the prescribed three-year period. In countries where a NAO has not yet been established, CPD records are kept via the competent EAPTI institutes, in accordance with EAP guidelines.

Re-registration

For the re-registration form to be accepted and entered into the re-registration process in our internal register, the following conditions must be met:

  • Graduated psychotherapists who have obtained their diploma at BHIDAPA–EAPTI must be regular members of BHIDAPA and pay their annual membership fee regularly.
  • Re-registration / “re-licensing” of the certificate is carried out every three years, in accordance with EAP standards (within the recommended three-year CPD review period as of 2025).
  • Re-registration / re-licensing follows the European standards of EIATSCYP, EAIP and EAP.
  • The re-registration application form (Form 23) can be completed together with the documents listed above here. This ECP re-registration process remains in force until the NAO – SPUuBiH fully takes over the process of maintaining the national Register of European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP) holders, in line with EAP procedures.

Once the re-registration application form has been received, it is forwarded to the BHIDAPA–EAPTI Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee for review. If the application meets the prescribed CPD criteria, the applicant is issued a Re-registration Extension Report.

The fee for the re-registration procedure is 120 BAM (61 EUR).

In the event of any breaches of ethical principles, the case is referred to the BHIDAPA–EAPTI Ethics Committee for further consideration and, where applicable, initiation of an appeals procedure.

BHIDAPA–EAPTI is required to open a separate re-registration file for each psychotherapist, in which all submitted documentation is stored, including the application form and the Re-registration Extension Report. This documentation is managed transparently, and information on the current registration status of psychotherapists is published on the website under: Register of Psychotherapists.
