3 ECVET/ECTS / EQF Level 7 / 1st year of study – STS
Module Description:
This module provides a fundamental understanding of the biological bases of sexuality through the analysis of anatomical, neurobiological, and hormonal mechanisms that regulate sexual function. It also explores various models of sexual response and factors shaping the psychological and emotional aspects of sexuality, including love, infatuation, and intimacy.
The module includes:
- Sexual Anatomy and Physiology – male and female reproductive systems, function of erogenous zones, and the neurobiological basis of the sexual response.
- Sexual Response Cycle – traditional models (Masters and Johnson, Kaplan), modern approaches (Basson, Byers, dual control model).
- Biological Bases of Sexuality – the role of neurotransmitters and hormones (testosterone, oestrogen, oxytocin, prolactin, dopamine, serotonin) in regulating sexual behaviour.
- Psychology of Love and Sexuality – neurobiological and psychological mechanisms related to love, infatuation, and intimacy.
- Differences Between Sexual Desire, Arousal, and Orgasm – interaction between physiological and psychological factors.
