Module Description:
This module provides participants with theoretical and practical foundations for counselling work in the field of sexual health. Through the integration of clinical and counselling methods, participants will develop competencies to provide professional support to individuals with various sexual difficulties, including emotional, cognitive, and behavioural aspects of sexual health. The module focuses on individual and couple counselling and evidence-based approaches in addressing specific sexual problems.
The module includes:
- Basics of Sexual Counselling – the role and boundaries of sexual counselling, ethical principles, and professional guidelines.
- Structure and Process of Sexual Counselling – goal setting, development of the therapeutic relationship, and evaluation of client progress.
- Interventions in Sexual Counselling – cognitive-behavioural techniques, mindfulness approaches, systemic and integrative methods in client work.
- Rad s parovima i individualno savjetovanje – Specifičnosti savjetodavnog rada u kontekstu partnerskih odnosa, komunikacijske strategije i rješavanje konflikata vezanih za seksualne probleme.
- Counselling on Sexual Dysfunctions – practical tools for working with sexual dysfunctions in men and women, including low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, vaginismus, and orgasmic difficulties.
- Specific Populations and Sexual Counselling – working with LGBTQ+ populations, individuals with disabilities, those with traumatic experiences, and people facing religious and cultural barriers to sexual health.
- Psychosexual Development and Client Education – providing education and support to clients in understanding their own sexuality, sexual health, and partnership dynamics.
Learning Outcomes:
Competencies
By the end of the module, students will be able to:
a) Independently conduct the sexual counselling process, applying appropriate techniques and interventions.
b) Recognise individual and partnership issues in sexuality and plan and implement the counselling process.
c) Integrate theoretical knowledge and clinical methods when working with diverse clients.
Knowledge
By the end of the module, students will acquire:
a) Knowledge of key methods in sexual counselling and therapeutic interventions.
b) Understanding of ethical aspects and professional standards in client work.
c) Insight into different models of sexual counselling and their specific applications.
Skills
By the end of the module, students will develop:
a) The ability to provide support to clients with various sexual difficulties.
b) The skill to recognise and understand clients’ individual needs through sexual history taking and assessment.
c) Competence in applying diverse counselling approaches and methods tailored to specific sexual problems.
Assessment of Knowledge and Competencies:
The module is assessed through:
– Written assignment – Case study and intervention plan in sexual counselling.
– Practical demonstration – Simulation of a counselling session.
– Presentation – Analysis of scientific research in the field of sexual counselling.
