Diversity and inclusion in education

Module Description:

This module focuses on understanding and integrating diversity and inclusion into the educational process within psychotherapy education. Through theoretical foundations and practical examples, participants will develop awareness of the importance of cultural sensitivity, inclusive language and approaches, as well as recognising and responding to the diverse needs of trainees.

The module promotes the values of equality, diversity, and accessibility, with the aim of creating a safe, supportive, and fair educational environment.

The module includes:

  • Inclusive approaches in adult education.
  • Cultural competence and intercultural sensitivity.
  • Gender equality and diversity of identities.
  • Learning approaches tailored to different styles and needs.
  • Prevention of discrimination and creation of a safe educational space.

Learning Outcomes

Competencies:
By the end of the module, participants will be able to:
a) Apply the principles of inclusivity in the design and delivery of education.
b) Promote cultural sensitivity and equal access to learning.
c) Identify and adapt educational approaches to different learning needs.

Knowledge:
By the end of the module, participants will have acquired:
a) Theoretical knowledge of inclusive education and cultural diversity.
b) Insight into the challenges and opportunities in educating diverse groups.
c) Understanding of the educator’s role in promoting equality and diversity.

Skills:
By the end of the module, participants will have developed:
a) Skills in recognising and responding to diverse educational needs.
b) The ability to facilitate learning in multicultural groups.
c) The capacity to create an inclusive educational space.

Assessment of Knowledge and Competencies:

The module is assessed through:

  • Group analysis of examples of good inclusive practice.
  • Written reflection on the topic of diversity in education.
  • Presentation of a strategy for inclusive education design.
