Gender dysphoria

Module Description:

This module provides a detailed understanding of gender dysphoria and restless genital syndrome from a multidisciplinary perspective. The focus is on diagnosis, psychological and neurobiological aspects of these conditions, as well as therapeutic approaches and support for clients facing these challenges. The module explores gender identity, psychological processes related to gender dysphoria, clinical guidelines for treatment, and specific characteristics of restless genital syndrome, including neurological and somatic factors contributing to its development.

The module includes:

  • Gender Dysphoria – clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria (ICD-11 and DSM-5), and ethical aspects of working with transgender and gender non-binary individuals.
  • Psychological and Emotional Consequences – the impact of gender dysphoria on mental health, sexual functioning, and quality of life.
  • Therapeutic and Medical Approaches – individual and group therapy, pharmacotherapy, hormone therapy, and surgical interventions in the context of gender dysphoria.
  • Contextual and Sociocultural Aspects – legal and social issues related to gender identity, medical transition, and stigma.
  • Interdisciplinary Approach – collaboration among psychotherapists, sexologists, neurologists, endocrinologists, and other specialists in the treatment of these conditions.
