Module Description:
This module explores the complex dynamics of the psychotherapeutic relationship, emphasizing the development of the working alliance and understanding factors that may disrupt the therapeutic process. Through theoretical and practical content, students will develop the ability to recognize, analyze, and intervene in situations involving alliance ruptures, resistance, and therapy stagnation. The module includes integration of transference and countertransference processes, as well as specific challenges in working with adolescents.
The module includes:
- Psychotherapeutic Relationship – key characteristics of the therapist-client relationship and factors that contribute to therapeutic connection.
- Working Alliance – development of trust, safety, and collaboration in the therapeutic process.
- Alliance Ruptures – recognition, analysis, and interventions in cases of disrupted therapeutic connection.
- Transference and Countertransference – understanding unconscious dynamics in the therapist–client relationship.
- Resistance and Therapeutic Stagnation – strategies for recognising and overcoming challenges in the therapeutic process.
- Resistance and Stalemates in Therapy – strategies for recognising and overcoming challenges in the therapeutic process.

Competencies:
By the end of the module, students will be able to:
a) Develop the capacity to establish and maintain a quality therapeutic relationship through the application of integrative methods.
b) Apply appropriate interventions in cases of disrupted therapeutic connection and challenges in working with clients.
c) Critically reflect on personal countertransference reactions and their impact on the therapeutic process.
Knowledge:
By the end of the module, students will acquire:
a) Understanding of the key elements of the working alliance and factors contributing to successful therapy.
b) Familiarity with theoretical concepts of transference and countertransference in various psychotherapeutic modalities.
c) Recognition and analysis of resistance, stagnation, and rupture in the therapeutic relationship.
Skills:
By the end of the module, students will develop:
a) Flexibility in therapeutic approach tailored to the client’s needs.
b) Application of strategies to strengthen the working alliance and overcome difficulties in the therapeutic process.
c) Working with clients’ emotional processes through reflective and empathetic communication.
Assessment of Knowledge and Competencies:
The module is assessed through:
– Case study analysis through a reflective essay.
– Practical demonstration of conducting the therapeutic process through supervision.
– Oral presentation on the topics of transference, countertransference, and the working alliance.
